4 stories of hope: Preparing for life's uncertainties with AXA Philippines

08 February 2024 | 3 Min Read

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. The good news is that there's so much you can do to prepare for what may lie ahead. You can, for example, save up for financial emergencies or get insurance coverage. These give you peace of mind that you and your loved ones will be taken care of when the need arises.

Preparing for the future with AXA's insurance plans

AXA Philippines offers Global Health Access, a best-in-class healthcare plan that takes away the worry and hefty expenses that come with emergencies here or anywhere in the world, so you can focus more on living your life to the fullest.

This is something Lovelyn Guevarra experienced firsthand when she needed to undergo intensive treatments in a two-year span, first due to a stroke and then a case of endometriosis the following year. Having Global Health Access (GHA) coverage, she knew she didn't have to worry.

"My husband and I are confident that we will get the best treatment because we have insurance from AXA," Lovelyn recalls. AXA's GHA took care of her hospitalizations, surgery, speech and physical rehabilitation, as well as her medicines for the next 90 days after her treatment.

Like Lovelyn, 8-year-old Cailah Aplan's parents knew the high cost of getting medical treatment for an extended period of time. As someone who dreams of becoming a school principal someday, her ambition was nearly dashed after she was diagnosed with leukemia. But thanks to her parents who got her an insurance plan with critical illness coverage, Cailah received extensive treatment that spanned several months, which gave her a fighting chance at battling the disease.

Getting the power of choice

Jem Sanico was in the prime of her life when she found out she had cancer. Her doctors initially recommended that she undergo chemotherapy, but that failed to reduce the size of the mass that had already spread throughout her body.

Fortunately, she had more treatment options available as a GHA plan holder. Her doctor in Singapore recommended that she undergo CAR T-Cell Therapy, which wasn't available in the Philippines. Through GHA, she was able to go to Singapore to have her cells harvested, then went back to the country to have these cells infused into her body. After 30 days, her doctors returned with good news that the mass had shrunk.

Jem says that having GHA gave her the power of choice to be able to choose the hospital where she will be treated and the doctors who will treat her. "It gives you confidence that you will be healed."

Sooner is always better

Sometimes, good timing also helps when it comes to getting insured like in the case of Leiss Desacutan. Just a day after paying her premium, she figured in an accident when her motorcycle's front tire burst, causing her to crash.

"My first thought was, good thing I have insurance," she shares. This allowed her to get her much-needed treatment to reconstruct her torn ligaments at St. Luke's Medical Center. She didn't have to worry about her initial treatment either, because her plan reimbursed her medical costs even if she was confined in a non-accredited hospital.
